Hog Island Field Trip
FIELD TRIP TO HOG ISLAND OYSTER COMPANY
ARCS members had a wonderful day at Hog Island Oyster Farm on Tomales Bay, with a tour followed by a delicious lunch on the water. Oysters are fascinating -- not only do they clean and restore water quality, but their adaptable genes (silent genes) make them climate resilient against ocean acidification and warming temperatures. The group also learned about the different varieties of oysters, and how Hog Island uses marine biology to sustainably farm them. Our tour guide knew everything there is to know about oysters; it was impossible to stump him!
