The Northern California Chapter of ARCS Foundation, Inc. has invited a small number of distinguished Bay Area business leaders to join its Leadership Council. The purpose of the Council is to draw on its expertise to advance ARCS Foundation's mission of re-establishing America’s leadership in science. This is accomplished by funding academically outstanding U.S. citizens completing graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical research.
The ARCS Foundation Leadership Advisory Council will help leverage a highly successful program by:
Sharing ideas and best practices from the business world to increase the visibility of ARCS Foundation,
Providing innovative thought to increase gifts to ARCS Foundation for scholar awards, and
Serving as ambassadors to introduce others in their networks to ARCS Foundation.
ARCS Foundation Leadership Advisory Council commitment includes meeting twice a year, once in the spring in a member’s corporate office, and once in the fall attending the ARCS Scholar Awards Celebration in San Francisco. The Council will perform advisory but not fiduciary or legal duties.
ARCS Foundation champions scholars working at the frontiers of science to secure America’s future.
"The ARCS award has allowed me to prioritize my coursework and research in a way that would not otherwise be possible. I estimate that without it, I would be working well upwards of 20 hours a week in addition to my scholarly activities and the quality of my work would necessarily suffer. Truly, of any academic recognition I have ever received, the ARCS award is what I am most proud of."
Willie Mae Reese, UC Berkeley
"With your support, I do not have to worry about funding my studies as I acclimate to my new campus and graduate school. I am able to have more independence in choosing my research and can study and contribute to an area that I am passionate about because it is socially relevant science. In the future, I hope to inspire other young scientists to pursue STEM careers."
Elizabeth Crook, UC Santa Cruz
"As I finish my thesis on coral reef research in the ocean sciences, these generous funds have allowed me to focus solely on my dissertation. As a new mom, this focus is extremely valuable, and allows me to spend my spare moments at home with my son rather than putting in extra hours toward my stipends and fees. Your donation has helped me achieve a positive work-life balance, which is something many female scientists strive to attain!"
