Dr. Knott earned his medical degree at UC San Diego School of Medicine and completed a five-year surgical residency in Otolaryngology at the Cleveland Clinic. He also completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and is board-certified in Otolaryngology and Reconstructive Surgery.
In his research, Dr. Knott is working to develop new methods for reconstructing the palate (roof of the mouth) and the area of the eye orbit and upper jaw. He also studies microvascular treatment of osteonecrosis (when inadequate blood supply leads to death of bone tissue) and cartilage bioengineering (growing new cartilage tissue).
Dr. Knott joined UCSF in 2011, after practicing at Cleveland Clinic for 10 years. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has won national awards for his research, including studies of head and neck tissue transplantation.
