ARCS Scholar Amory Martin is pursuing his PhD from Stanford University. His research focuses on using topology optimization to design more efficient and earthquake-resistant structures, particularly self-centering rocking systems in high-rise buildings. Amory presented his research at the ARCS Northern California Chapter's Fall general meeting. With recent news of the earthquake safety of building in San Francisco there was a lot of interest in Amory's work and the buildings his technology can help design or retrofit.
