ARCS Supernova 2024 - Annual Scholar Celebration & Symposium

The Minds of Today Creating Solutions for Tomorrow

ARCS SUPERNOVA
April 29, 2024 - The City Club of San Francisco

A Celebration of Innovation and Excellence!

San Francisco, CA – April 29, 2024 – ARCS Foundation, Northern California Chapter hosted its annual signature event, Supernova 2024 at the City Club of San Francisco. The gala celebrated the brilliance and innovation of this year's cohort of 84 ARCS NCC Scholars, raising the visibility of their cutting-edge research, and providing them with public speaking opportunities.

ARCS NCC provides well over $1,000,000 annually in unrestricted merit-based awards to students pursuing advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering, math, and medical research at partner universities: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz, San Francisco State, and Stanford University.

"An ARCS Scholar Award enables scientific and technological advancement by transforming not only the life of a graduate-level researcher but, quite possibly, the world, too," said Deborah Mann, co-President of ARCS NCC. "As most breakthroughs happen early in one’s research career, any 'lost' research potentially means lost solutions – solutions that could change the world."

Approximately 300 attendees, including long-time ARCS members and Bay Area philanthropists Gretchen Kimball and Merrill Randol, enjoyed “science with a glass a wine”, as Mann quipped.

The evening included to two expert-moderated roundtable discussions, featuring ARCS Scholar panelists discussing topics such as science communication and the utilization of artificial intelligence in research. Current ARCS scholars were present to engage a mostly lay audience in the impact potential of their research. For a little playfulness, guests played Talk to a Scholar BINGO for a chance to win an Apple watch.

"Supernova is more than just an event; it's an evening of inspiration, innovation, and celebration," said event chair, Rita Benton Milner. "We are paving the way for a brighter future through the advancement of science and a science-informed public.”

Make your Scholar Award gift today, and help transform the lives of the next cohort of amazing ARCS Scholars and shape the trajectory of scientific progress!
